Tactus GenTrak to ensure that networks are “hurricane ready”
Tactus Telematics, the remote system management specialists, have launched GenTrak, a new system to remotely manage generators. This system ensures that generators are ready to provide power for base stations and other vital systems in the wake of hurricanes and tropical storms.
The system comprises of compact and rugged units that can be mounted inside the generator. These units are connected to the control panel and specialised sensors such as oil quality probes. GenTrak units have already been interfaced to a wide range of control panels with more being added on a regular basis.
A central software application keeps in regular contact with each unit via the mobile communications network. This application can be integrated with standard network management packages.
It remotely monitors vital signs such as fuel level, oil quality and power output. If any function moves outside of set limits, the system raises an alarm via email or SMS. GenTrak can even remotely start generators. This allows field servicing to be carried out more efficiently and ensures that generators are always ready for operation.
GenTrak also keeps track of the unit’s location. In the event that the generator is moved without permission, the system raises an alarm.
